A Journeyman’s Career - From Liverpool’s Youth Academy to Orange County Soccer Club
Tom Patriziio Brewitt’s pathway to OCSC has been nothing short of a journeyman’s career. From Liverpool’s youth academy, to being OCSC’s captain, he has played in an array of competitions and shared the locker room with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold. He’s been part of numerous clubs, both in England and within the United States. In this article, we’ll explore his journey and how he came to captain OCSC in his debut on March 8th, 2025.
Developing into a Professional - Liverpool and Middlesbrough Youth Teams
In 2014/15 Tom recorded his first season with Liverpool’s older academy setup. He played for three different iterations of Liverpool Academy teams to include: Liverpool U18s, the Liverpool squad that participated in that season’s UEFA Youth League, and Liverpool U23s that played in the U21 Premier League.
In the fabled FA Youth Cup, Tom Brewitt was part of Liverpool’s U18 side that took on Birmingham City’s U18s. He captained the Liverpool outfit as left Center Back (CB), one of his most common positions. Unfortunately Liverpool ended up losing the match, but in the 119th minute, Tom was substituted by none other than Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Within that very same season, his Liverpool side came up against the youth teams of FC Basel, Ludogrets, Real Madrid CF and SL Benfica in the UEFA Youth League. It was here that he came up against some names you might have heard of to include: Borja Mayoral and Sergio Reguillon.
He then spent the following 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons with Liverpool’s youth teams and then moved to Middlesbrough on a free transfer where he was with their U21 side. He played a season for them and was let go as a free agent in July 2018.
National League to League 2 - Fylde and Morecambe FC
The journey for Tom Brewitt wouldn’t stop there however. In the following month, he was acquired by National League side Fylde. He played only one season for Fylde, where he was used in a wide variety of positions. In his 16 appearances for the club, he played CB on nine occasions, Defensive Midfielder (DM) another six, and Left Back (LB) once.
With the conclusion of the 2018/19 season, Tom Brewitt was acquired on a free by Morecambe FC. Known as “The Shrimps”, he played for them 27 times in the 2019/20 season, featuring in all four of their competitions (League 2, EFL Trophy, FA Cup and EFL Cup).
Morecambe FC to the USL Championship
He was let go on a free from Morecambe in July 2020. It was here that Tom Berwitt would make his first foray into the USLC, as he was acquired by the Tacoma Defiance in March 2021. For the Tacoma Defiance, he played 29 times for them, 23 at CB and three as a DM. That season he played twice against OCSC, where his side won both matches with a combined score of 5:1.
For the 2022 season, he moved from the Tacoma Defiance to Hartford Athletic. In his 32 appearances for Hartford, he was used as CB 26 times, DM five and played a solitary match in Central Midfield (CM). This helps solidify a pattern that he primarily plays as a CB but can also be used as a DM, CDM and even a CM, should the need arise.
Back to England with Swindon Town
At the end of the 2022 USLC season, Tom Brewitt was released by Hartford. He was then acquired by EFL League Two side, Swindon Town in March 2023. He featured for Swindon Town more than he has for any other club so far, making 45 appearances for them between the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons. He was exclusively used as a CB in his time with Swindon. Of note from his time with Swindon Town, he started against Wrexham in August 2023, playing the full 90 minutes in a thrilling 5:5 draw, a match that was the highlight of Season 3, Episode 2 of Welcome to Wrexham titled “Goals”.
Finally to OCSC
In July 2024, Tom Brewitt was released by Swindon Town. He remained a free agent until he was acquired by OCSC in February of 2025. He has since gone to start and captain both matches he has been available for.
What Can We Expect from Tom Brewitt?
Tom Brewitt has a wide breadth of playing experience across a multitude of leagues and competitions. The competition he has played the most matches in is EFL League 2, where he has 65 total appearances. The USLC is a close second, where he has 62 as of writing. He is a rock-solid CB, and has played the majority of his recorded matches as such (132/193 as of writing). He can also be used as a defensive midfielder, and even an emergency RB and LB. He also does have the ability to score goals, he has 10 total in his career so far, with his most prolific season coming with Hartford in 2022 where he had 3 goals and 2 assists. We hope he can bring a goal or two this season, while continuing to be a solid piece of OCSC’s backline.
Good luck with the upcoming season Tom, we’re all backing you and the squad to do great things!
