Orange County SC announced early Wednesday morning that goalkeeper Aaron Cervantes has agreed to a move to Rangers FC.
A SoCal native, Cervantes played with the LA Galaxy Academy and Pateadores as a child, where he was coached by Braeden Cloutier. After taking over as head coach of Orange County SC, Cloutier signed the youngster to his first professional contract just before his 16th birthday.
He was Orange County’s youngest-ever signing, and made the matchday squad four times in his debut season.
Just over a year after first signing with OC, Cervantes made his debut in a 2-2 draw against New Mexico United. Cervantes took the starting role for OC in July 2019 and helped steady the defense during a tumultuous run of form. From then on, he started every match before earning an international call up in September.
Cervantes was also a member of the squad for the United States at the U-17 World Cup in Brazil in October 2019.
He was one of three Orange County youth players who were on trial with Rangers last winter. Rumors of a move to Rangers began circulating in early September. It is the first permanent transfer between the two sides, coming less than a year after a club partnership was announced.
In three seasons, Cervantes ultimately made 17 appearances for OCSC, keeping five cleansheets. His last appearance for Orange County came on October 3 in a 4-2 win over Las Vegas.
All of us here wish Aaron luck moving forward.
