The Orange County front office had a lot on their plate in the month of July. They saw departures of players but answered by bringing in some much needed reinforcements to help with the late season surge into the postseason. OCSC saw loans number two and three make their first appearance in that of Chris Hegardt and Tomas Gomez. Both players had a positive impact on the game with Gomez in particular playing exceptionally well enough to earn a clean sheet.

All professional sports are businesses at heart that after some time would like to see some returns made on investments. One of the bigger sources of income that OC possesses is their youth academy. When comparing OCSC’s academy to other USL academies, Orange County has placed themselves into the elite in terms of developing and selling off players for a profit. It is a way of running a club that is proven in other parts of the world and one that OC has looked to establish in a very deep and talented Southern California market.

Wednesday night in Albuquerque, New Mexico will mark the halfway point of Orange County’s season. A season that got off to a blistering start has done a complete 180 with Orange County now on the wrong side of the playoff line. We can spend all of our time blaming injuries or referees or untimely departures. 

But Orange County in recent memory has yet to truly have a terrible run of form….
