Match Preview: Orange County SC vs. FC Tulsa

On a rare Friday night match, the reigning USL Champions will welcome FC Tulsa to Championship Soccer Stadium as both teams look to improve on their slow starts.

Irvine, CA - OCSC is currently in 10th place in the USL Championship Western Conference, with nine points from eight games. FC Tulsa find themselves in eight place in the East, with 12 points from 10 games. Both teams have struggled defensively in the early moments of the season.

Orange County have been in a bit of a slump in 2022, with just one win in their last five matches. Last time out, OC limped to a 2-2 draw at home against the Oakland Roots; a team that, before the tie, failed to take any points in five separate contests with OCSC. A major cause for the struggle, especially evident in the second half of the last game, is the club’s lack of a clinical offensive player and a stagnant offense.

In contrasting styles, FC Tulsa have scored 16 goals thus far, but still find themselves struggling for wins. Their only win in five, the visitors arrive in town fresh off of an impressive 3-1 victory over Detroit City. Joaquin Rivas scored a brace in that match, and the OC defense will need to stifle the Salvadorian to keep his side winless on the road.

Orange County will be without the services of Danny Acosta, who recently suffered an ACL injury and will not return in 2022. FC Tulsa look to be at full strength after Lebo Moloto’s earlier red card for violent conduct was rescinded late last week.

The game will be played Friday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m. Pacific at Championship Soccer Stadium at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California. Local rock band Social Distortion is scheduled to be in the house along with fireworks scheduled after the final whistle. For those watching at home, the match is available on Hulu Live or ESPN+ for viewers in the United States.
