Qatar Donates $40,000 to OCSC Community Foundation in Celebration of Qatar’s National Sports Day
The Orange County Soccer Club Community Foundation is thrilled to announce that we have received a $40,000 donation from the Embassy of the State of Qatar in the United States to support healthy, active communities in Orange County in celebration of Qatar’s National Sports Day!
Over the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to our community. We saw significant increases in food insecurity, job losses and across the board sports program closures. However, the OCSC Foundation has not lost sight of our mission: to use soccer as a vehicle to promote health and wellness, develop youth leadership, advance social change and create positive community impact.
The donation that we received from the people of Qatar can help us fulfill our mission. This generous support will allow us to continue making our community a better, healthier place through soccer clinics, mental health clinics, equipment distribution and academic programs. Our virtual soccer curriculum has already rolled out to many Orange County schools, with kids practicing soccer skills taught by our professional players. When it is safe to do so, we will build on this with in-person health and wellness instruction as well.
The Embassy of the State of Qatar in the United States has been a valued supporter of our mission since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. In Fall 2020, the Embassy of the State of Qatar in the United States donated $15,000 in support of our partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. Qatar’s funding supported this important initiative that had an immediate and meaningful impact for families experiencing food insecurity in Orange County.
We would like to thank the people of Qatar and Qatar’s Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Sheikh Meshal bin Hamad Al Thani, for their continued support!
