In the first match since the departure of Morten Karlsen, Orange County fell 2-0 to Oakland on Saturday.
Orange County SC got a much needed goal from Ethan Zubak and were able to rely on a makeshift defensive line in front of Colin Shutler to steal a victory to end Indy’s 10 game win streak.
Then the week after happened and OC lost both its starting midfielder and their head coach.
The match on Saturday had all the signs that it would be another disappointing evening for Orange County SC. They had to travel across the country for an away match against Indy Eleven, a team that has been absolutely on fire in the league recently, with an 8-match winning streak, all while OCSC continued to struggle with injuries.
A late defensive mishap and some inexperience condemned Orange County to another loss at the hands of Phoenix Rising.
OCSC were victims to more injuries and a heavy 3-0 defeat by Louisville City on Saturday. This is the first away loss in 2024, but OC remain in third.
Orange County SC was back on the road to face off against San Antonio FC this weekend. Each side's defense was impenetrable, and the match ended in a draw.
It wasn't the prettiest of performances, but only two shots and two goals prove that quality over quantity will always prevail as Orange County SC takes 3 points away in Pittsburgh.
For the first time in 691 days, Orange County Soccer Club will play in a postseason game.
It is one of the most impressive single-season turnarounds that the USL has seen in recent memory. After only winning one of their first ten league games of the year, the Orange and Black have stormed through the league to clinch the number two seed in the Western Conference as well as number four overall in the USL. It truly is a testament to the work of Morten Karlsen and his technical staff for the turnaround that OCSC experienced. More often than not, the bounces on and off the field have gone in favor of Orange County and the 2023 USL playoffs are the perfect chance for OC to win another title.
Of course there are 15 other teams who have a chance at the title as well. Thus in the first round of the playoffs, Orange County will host a team that they have yet to beat this year: El Paso Locomotive FC.
